Scoops of the Day

Puppy on Patrol Needs a Name 🐶

The North Dakota Highway Patrol is welcoming an extra cute new recruit to its Fargo team this February and they’re letting the public help name him. The new bloodhound, selected after months of searching, will soon be training to track scents and assist troopers across the region. Before he officially reports for duty, NDHP is asking residents to vote on one of four names: Beau, Oslo, Mack, or Leo.

According to the Highway Patrol, the pup has already been worth the wait and is expected to be “stealing hearts and sniffing trails” in no time. He comes from Boerner’s Bloodhounds & Bernese Mountain Dogs, a breeder with decades of experience training working dogs. Voting is currently open, though the agency hasn’t shared when it will close or when training officially begins.

Stars, Stripes, and Stage Lights in Medora 🇺🇸🎶

Medora is bringing back its Medora Masterpiece initiative, inviting artists to help celebrate patriotism through creativity tied to the iconic Medora Musical. Now in its second year, the contest aims to grow into a lasting community tradition while enhancing the experience for visitors. This year’s theme focuses on unity, shared values, and pride in the U.S., aligning with upcoming America250 celebrations marking the nation’s 250th anniversary. Artists are encouraged to interpret patriotism through music and performance without leaning into partisan messaging.

Submissions open January 31 and run through April 14, with participation open to artists ages 18 and older. Entries can be emailed or mailed to the Medora office, and the winning piece will be announced May 5. Organizers hope the artwork will add another meaningful layer to the Medora Musical experience while highlighting local talent.
