125 Years and $10K Strong at Fargo Public Library 📚$
The Fargo Public Library is celebrating a major milestone with a $10,000 gift from the Carnegie Corporation as part of the “Carnegie Libraries 250” initiative. The recognition honors libraries that continue to serve their communities, timed with the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. After 125 years of service, Fargo’s library is still going strong and remains one of 1,280 Carnegie-funded libraries still operating nationwide.
Originally funded by industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, who helped establish 1,681 free public libraries across the country, Fargo’s branch stands as one of eight public Carnegie libraries in North Dakota. It’s a reminder of how deeply rooted public spaces like this are in our community. A century and a quarter later, it’s still a place for learning, gathering, and growing. The Heroic Scoop

Virtual Honor Flight Brings DC Memorials Home 🎖️
An 80 year old Vietnam era veteran recently experienced a powerful tribute without leaving home, thanks to Veterans Honor Flight of North Dakota/Minnesota. Using virtual reality, Dean Slininger was able to “visit” major Washington, D.C. memorials that honor military service, including those dedicated to Vietnam veterans. Surrounded by family, he reflected on his service and expressed gratitude for the thoughtful program.
Slininger served in Vietnam in the mid 1960s as an artillery ammunition specialist before later working in farming and trucking. The organization continues to provide both in person and virtual honor flights so veterans who can’t travel still receive recognition for their service and sacrifice.
