Scoops of the Day

From Fargo to the National Stage 🛏️

A mattress innovation developed through a partnership between North Dakota State University and Comfort King is now gaining national attention. After eight years of research alongside the Centers of Excellence Commission, the team created a patented spiral gel grid technology that differs from the standard straight grid design commonly used in mattresses. The material has already been featured in Comfort King’s luxury lines for the past five years.

Now, luxury mattress brand King Koil is incorporating the gel into select models, expanding its reach beyond the Midwest. Comfort King founder Chris Larson secured a patent for the design in 2023, and while the company maintains exclusivity in its core markets, the technology is beginning to appear in stores outside the region with plans for broader distribution ahead.

NDDOT Upgrades Travel Map with Live Snowplow Tracking ❄️

The North Dakota Department of Transportation has upgraded its travel map to include live snowplow locations and dashcam images with timestamps and location details. All 352 plows are being updated to share data this winter. The map now features a new “snowplows” layer, clearer highway numbers, and a direct link to LoadPass permits for commercial drivers.

Travel maps are also available through Minnesota Department of Transportation and South Dakota Department of Transportation.
