Scoops of the Day
🌳 Community Orchards Take Root Across North Dakota 🍎
Fresh fruit will soon be growing in more North Dakota communities thanks to $120,000 in state grants awarded to four organizations to establish new community orchards. The projects, located in Tokio, Maddock, McKenzie County, and Belcourt, will provide much more than apples and berries. They'll serve as hands-on learning spaces where students and community members can gain experience with planting, pruning, harvesting, and caring for fruit trees while promoting healthier eating habits.
Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring says community orchards help strengthen neighborhoods by bringing people together and increasing access to fresh produce, with many of the harvests benefiting local schools and families in need. The initiative also comes as USDA data shows most adults and children still fall short of recommended daily fruit intake, making these orchards a meaningful investment in both education and community wellness.

🎭 Moorhead High School's New Arts Spaces Ready to Shine ✨
Moorhead Area Public Schools is celebrating the completion of its five-year high school renovation with a grand opening on Aug. 18. The final phase adds a variety of new performing arts spaces, including a theater, fine arts gallery, music classrooms, a black box theater, and a scene shop, marking the completion of the school's transformation.
The community is invited to attend the afternoon ribbon-cutting ceremony, tour the new facilities, and enjoy student performances. The celebration will continue that evening with "Find Your Light," an alumni showcase highlighting five decades of Moorhead High School's performing arts tradition, making it a special day for both current students and graduates.

🦆 North Dakota Announces 2026 Hunting Season Updates 🎯
The North Dakota Game and Fish Department has released its 2026 regulations for small game, waterfowl, and furbearer seasons, giving hunters time to prepare before opening day. Waterfowl season for residents begins Sept. 26, while nonresident hunters can start on Oct. 5. The early Canada goose season opens Aug. 15, with generous bag limits and varying closing dates depending on the region.
This year's regulations also include a few notable changes. American marten will be open for harvest for the first time, fisher trapping has expanded statewide, and the river otter season has been shortened to a three-week window. Hunters interested in the tundra swan lottery should also note the Aug. 19 application deadline. Printed regulation guides will be available later this month.

Fargo Little League's 12U team is heading to the Midwest Regional with one goal in mind: earn a trip to the Little League World Series. Several players have personal connections to that historic run, making this year's opportunity even more meaningful.
