Scoops of the Day

⚡️ Moorhead Schools Go Electric with New Buses

Moorhead Area Public Schools is adding three electric buses to its fleet, thanks to a $1.2 million grant from the Minnesota Department of Commerce. The new buses won’t replace existing diesel vehicles but will expand the district’s transportation options while cutting costs. Officials estimate the switch will save about $150,000 each year in operational and energy expenses, making it a win for both the district and local taxpayers. The electric buses are expected to roll out in the 2026–2027 school year.

🎨 Design North Dakota’s Next “I Voted” Sticker

The North Dakota Secretary of State’s Office is inviting artists of all ages to submit designs for the 2026 “I Voted” stickers. Part of the “I Voted – More Than Just a Sticker” contest, entries are due by November 15, with finalists chosen by a panel of judges and the public voting on the winner in January. The selected design will be printed on the 2-inch stickers handed out during the June 2026 primary election.

Secretary of State Michael Howe called the sticker a symbol of civic pride, saying it reminds others that participation matters. Submissions open September 15 and can be made online or by mail, with parental consent required for children.

🚶 NDSU Fraternity Walks for Men’s Health

Members of NDSU’s Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity are hitting the road for their annual Movember fundraiser, walking from Grand Forks to Fargo to raise awareness about men’s health. The effort shines a light on suicide prevention, mental health, and cancers affecting men, while encouraging important conversations that many older generations may have avoided.

Fraternity members say the walk strengthens their brotherhood while also building connections with the community, sparking dialogue that could help save lives. The campaign launched on World Suicide Prevention Day and continues throughout the month with opportunities to donate and show support.

A great 13 Years

👋 Charley Johnson Retires After 13 Years with Visit Fargo-Moorhead

After more than a decade leading Visit Fargo-Moorhead, CEO Charley Johnson is stepping into retirement. Johnson reflected that while the change will be big, it’s the right time to slow down. Even so, he’ll stay active on the convention center committee, which is currently reviewing nine project proposals with plans to narrow them down later this fall.

Stepping into the role is Shirley Hughes, who brings fresh ideas and a commitment to community growth. She joins Johnson on the committee and emphasized how critical the convention center project will be for both the organization and the metro area. While local tourism remains strong—hotel stays brought in more than $151 million in 2024—fewer Canadian visitors have created challenges.

Johnson expects the convention center recommendation to be finalized by March 2026, and he says he’s excited to see what comes next under Hughes’ leadership.
