Scoops of the Day
Freezin’ for a Reason ❄️
The F-M Legion Riders have once again braved the cold for "Freezing for a Reason," an event that raises awareness for homeless veterans and those struggling with PTSD. The 44-hour outdoor challenge represents the 22 veterans lost to suicide each day, a sobering reality the group hopes to shed light on.
What started as a six-week effort has evolved into a nine-day event, filled with activities, community engagement, and even a soup contest judged by local celebrities. Despite the freezing temperatures, the warmth of community support keeps the event going strong. All proceeds benefit Golden Drive and the Veterans Honor Flight, making every icy night worth it. For more details, read the full article here.
Sundaes for Breakfast 🍦
Scoop N Dough kicked off National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day in the sweetest way possible—by opening early and serving up breakfast-inspired treats. The Fargo shop, known for its delicious ice cream and edible cookie dough, welcomed early birds with free coffee, donut sundaes, waffle sundaes, and even orange juice floats.
Owner Josh Ulrich shared that this annual tradition has been going strong for seven years, drawing in a great crowd each time. Typically opening at noon on weekends, Scoop N Dough made an exception for the holiday, serving breakfast delights from 8 a.m. until supplies ran out. Because let’s be honest—who wouldn’t want an excuse to have ice cream for breakfast? For more details, read the full article here.
Spuds Set for Section Showdown 🏒
The Moorhead girls’ hockey team kicks off their playoff run tonight at 6 p.m. against Sartell/Sauk Rapids. With a 17-7-1 record and the No. 1 seed for the fourth straight year, the Spuds are aiming to return to the state tournament.
A recent win over No. 6 Andover has given them a boost, and senior goalie Taylor Kressin’s 94.7% save percentage has anchored the team. The offense is balanced and deep—just what they need to chase their first-ever state championship! For more details, read the full article here.

Scoop of Support
Investing in the Littlest Locals 👶
Clay County’s child care crisis is getting much-needed attention with the launch of a new Early Childhood Fund. A recent report found that Clay County needs 1,345 additional child care slots—1,050 in Moorhead alone—but staffing and financial challenges make expansion difficult.
The fund, created by local child care advocates, aims to support new child care start-ups, provider training, and even unexpected expenses like broken appliances that are essential for daily operations. With child care workers facing burnout and low wages, the initiative also hopes to boost morale and appreciation efforts.
The fundraising goal is $40,000 by May, and as of Friday, the effort had already reached $6,000. It’s a small but crucial step toward ensuring the community’s youngest members get the care they need. For more details, read the full article here.
