Scoops of the Day

Red River Valley Air Quality Concerns 🌫️

As you go about your Thursday, be aware that wildfire smoke from Canada and the western U.S. continues to affect the Red River Valley. State health officials in North Dakota and Minnesota urge people with respiratory conditions, pregnant women, children, and older adults to limit outdoor activities today. The smoke, which arrived Wednesday, may still be visible or detectable by smell and could cause symptoms like coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. ($) A Flavorful New Addition to Downtown Fargo 🌮

Downtown Fargo has a tasty new spot with the opening of Tee’s Tacos, where fry bread tacos and Indigi Bowls are already drawing in eager diners. Co-owner Tanya RedRoad, along with her family, proudly serves up a unique blend of American Indian and Mexican-inspired dishes. The menu highlights include fluffy fry bread tacos topped with traditional taco fixings and Indigi Bowls featuring wild rice, buffalo meat, and other hearty ingredients.

Located between the Holiday Stationstore and ThaiKota, Tee’s Tacos offers a cozy spot for take-out with a few dine-in seats. RedRoad, who has been serving fry bread since 2012, is excited about the community’s warm reception and looks forward to growing the business. The restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday, with plans to potentially expand hours in the future. For more details, read the full article here.

Rediscovered Titanic Statue Highlights Bittersweet Expedition 🚢

RMS Titanic Inc., the company with salvage rights to the Titanic, has unveiled new images from its first expedition to the wreck site in over a decade, revealing both significant decay and a remarkable rediscovery. Among the findings is the bronze statue "Diana of Versailles," believed lost for decades and last seen in 1986. Unfortunately, the expedition also documented the loss of a major section of the ship's iconic bow railing, which stood as recently as 2022.

The expedition, which took place amid the U.S. Coast Guard's investigation into the tragic June 2023 Titan submersible implosion, marked a poignant return to the site. Over 20 days, the crew captured more than 2 million high-resolution images and fully mapped the wreck, aiming to preserve the Titanic’s legacy and identify artifacts for future recovery. Frozen in Time

Fargo Theatre’s Charm

The Fargo Theatre, a standout in downtown Fargo, is celebrated for its striking art deco design by Buechner & Orth and its rapid construction in 1926 by T.F. Powers. Since its opening with the film “The Man on the Box,” the theatre has been adorned with distinctive blue and pink “light fountains,” a rich red curtain, and a historic 1926 “Mighty Wurlitzer” pipe organ.

Now the sole vintage theatre in the metro area, the Fargo Theatre hosts a variety of events, including movies, live performances, and the annual Fargo Film Festival. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. For more details, read the full article here.
