K9 Clover Joins West Fargo Police Team 🐾

West Fargo Police have introduced their newest comfort dog, K9 Clover, a two-year-old Chocolate Lab who will work alongside School Resource Officer Sari Skwiera. As the department's third comfort dog team, Clover and SRO Skwiera will focus on supporting five elementary schools, fostering positive relationships and assisting with stress, trauma, and grief.

Beyond the schools, the duo will also participate in community outreach, public events, and officer wellness programs, further expanding the department’s efforts to address mental health and provide support across the community. For more details, read the full article here.

From Fargo to Antarctica Chef Fulfills Childhood Dream ❄️

Chef Steven Schalau, a familiar face at Luna in south Fargo, recently returned after spending a year in Antarctica cooking for researchers and contractors in extreme conditions—down to -98°F with wind chills reaching -150°F. Schalau fulfilled a childhood dream of working at the South Pole, where he faced unique challenges like relying on years-old ingredients and cooking in a “frozen desert” where winter temperatures grounded planes.

Channeling his creativity, Schalau recreated Luna-inspired dishes, including smoked potatoes and popovers, while also volunteering with researchers to gather critical data. Fargo Resident Collects 1,000 Copies of 'Wedding Crashers' 🎬

Skyler (Sable) Husebye has surpassed her goal of collecting Wedding Crashers DVDs, now holding over 1,000 copies of the 2005 rom-com— a film she’s never even watched! Her unique collection journey began in the fall of 2023, when she had just over 500 copies. The Fargo Theatre will be screening the film on March 1st to celebrate her achievement. A Sundae of Giving

Community Rallies for West Fargo Boy Fighting Rare Cancer 💛

The West Fargo community came together on January 21 to support 12-year-old Jackson Berg, who is battling Primary Renal Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer with just ten known cases on record. Diagnosed in May 2024, Jackson has undergone extensive treatments, including chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, which his doctors believe are working.

Sunday’s benefit, hosted at Secure Title, Inc., aimed to raise $30,000 to assist the Berg family with medical expenses. Jackson’s mother, Amy, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support through donations and raffle items, saying, “We’re just kind of appreciating everyone and taking it all in.”

Jackson, who is currently completing schoolwork from home, has seen his treatment timeline extend to May 2025. Donations to Jackson’s Lend A Hand Up fund are open until February 8, 2025. For more details, read the full article here.
