Scoops of the Day
Making a Splash This Summer 💦
Island Park Pool is diving into summer with a fresh new look! After major renovations, the Fargo favorite is set to reopen in June with exciting new features that go well beyond a simple refresh. According to the Fargo Parks District, a grand opening date will be announced soon as crews wrap up the final touches.
The upgraded facility will boast a 50-meter competition pool complete with diving boards and a diving platform. Visitors can also enjoy a lifestyle pool, a lazy river, and a water slide tower featuring both a flytyme and tube slide. Whether you’re looking to lounge, float, or make a splash, Island Park Pool is shaping up to be a go-to summer destination. For more details, read the full article here.
Target on Hold 🎯
Plans for a second Target location in south Fargo seem to be stuck in limbo. Earlier this year, the retailer’s corporate website listed a new store as “coming soon” to the area—but that listing has since quietly disappeared. This change has left residents wondering what’s next.
City officials confirmed that while there have been preliminary discussions with Target, no formal site plan has been submitted. Valley News Live reached out to the company for clarification but has not yet received a response. For now, the future of a south Fargo Target remains uncertain. For more details, read the full article here.
A Second Chance at Immortality ⚾
In a historic shift, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred has reinstated Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson, clearing the way for both to be considered for the Hall of Fame. The decision comes decades after their careers were overshadowed by infamous gambling scandals—Rose for betting on games as a manager, and Jackson for his involvement in the 1919 Black Sox scandal.
The new policy ends permanent bans upon death, a change announced just one day before the Cincinnati Reds will celebrate “Pete Rose Night.” Several others impacted by historical gambling ties, including members of the 1919 Black Sox, also had their status revised. While emotions are mixed, this ruling opens the door for long-debated legends to finally earn a spot in Cooperstown—with 2028 being the earliest possible induction year under current rules. A Scoop of Strength
Greta's Fight, Community's Heart ❤️
The Fargo-Moorhead community is rallying around 19-year-old Greta Frisch as she bravely battles Stage 2A Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. What began as a persistent cough led to a shocking diagnosis after doctors discovered a collapsed lung and a tumor—roughly the size of a grapefruit—pressing against her heart. Despite the severity, Greta's strength and spirit have been unwavering, leaving even her doctors in awe.
To support Greta and her family, a benefit will be held Thursday, May 22 at the Moorhead Youth Hockey Arena starting at 4 p.m. The event will feature a pork feed, silent auction, bake sale, live music, and a cash bar. Donations can also be made through her Lend A Hand Up page to assist with medical and daily expenses. It’s a chance for the community to come together and show Greta she’s not alone in this fight.
