Scoops of the Day

($) Delicious Flavors Await 🌮

La Catrina Mexican Store and Snacks in Fargo offers a delightful mix of sweet and savory treats. Owned by Miriam and Sergio Aguirre, the spot combines a deli and convenience store, serving everything from crepes and popsicles to hearty dishes like tortas and flautas. With a full kitchen and a growing selection of Mexican and Central American groceries, it’s a one-stop shop for unique food items and delicious eats. The store, located at 4950 13th Avenue South, is quickly becoming a community favorite. For more details, read the full article here.

($) Pledge for Ice Arena Expansion ⛸️

The West Fargo Park District has reaffirmed its commitment to a $5 million contribution for a new ice sheet at Veterans Memorial Arena. This pledge, first made in 2022, is crucial for the $20 million expansion project, which also depends on the West Fargo Hockey Association raising $10 million and the West Fargo School Board contributing $5 million. With the West Fargo Sports Arena experiencing ice issues, the need for additional ice space has become even more urgent. The proposed third sheet of ice aims to address this, ensuring the community has enough facilities to support local hockey.

The letter of intent signed by the Park Board is a non-binding commitment, showing support for the project as the school board considers another bond referendum. This addition promises to generate substantial income for the district while enhancing the local sports community. For hockey lovers, it’s not just about the rink but investing in the future of West Fargo. For more details, read the full article here.

ND HHS Launches “Recovery Rocks” 🎨

The North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS) has introduced an inspiring new art project, Recovery Rocks, to help combat the stigma surrounding addiction and mental health disorders. With nearly 33,000 individuals struggling with both issues in 2023, this initiative encourages participants to express their recovery journeys through painting on rocks. Residents at the Heartview Foundation in Bismarck, like Kayla Brunelle and Mark Scott, use this creative outlet to share personal stories of hope and healing.

Art is proving to be a powerful tool for emotional release, self-expression, and building community. Participants can either keep their painted rocks as reminders or display them publicly to raise awareness. For more details, read the full article here.
