Scoops of the Day

📱 North Dakota Launches Mobile Driver’s License 🛂

North Dakotans can now carry their ID digitally through Apple, Google, or Samsung Wallets, making TSA airport checkpoints faster and more convenient. Currently accepted at five state airports—including Fargo and Grand Forks—the mobile ID allows users to control what information is shared, offering added security over a physical card. Officials recommend still carrying a physical ID, as law enforcement and other locations may not accept the digital version during the transition. The optional mobile ID costs $5 per renewal period, and over 700 residents have already signed up. For more details, read the full article here.

Honor Flight Homecoming for Vietnam Veteran ❤️

Vietnam veteran Calvin Johnson, an Honor Flight participant, returned to Hector International Airport after falling ill during his trip to Washington, D.C., missing the large group celebration. Coordinators quickly arranged a heartfelt welcome with signs, music, and support, giving Johnson the recognition he deserves. His wife, Kathy, reflected on the sacrifices he made during service and expressed gratitude for the special homecoming. The ND/MN Honor Flight, a 100% volunteer organization, offers free trips for veterans to visit memorials in Washington, D.C., honoring their service and sacrifice. For more details, read the full article here.

🌶️ MSUM Deans Spice It Up for Chili Cook-Off 🍲

Minnesota State University Moorhead brought the heat during Homecoming Week with a fun chili cook-off featuring seven unique recipes from faculty and staff. From plant-based and vegan options to creamy chicken chili, each dean put their own twist on the classic dish—like maple syrup-infused flavors or sweet potato blends. The event drew students and community members alike, offering live music, conversation, and a taste of Dragon Pride. This year’s winner was Athletics Director Chad Markuson with his cream cheese chicken chili. For more details, read the full article here.

A Sundae of Giving

Cass Clay Creamery teamed up with Hornbacher’s to donate over 24,000 “Giving Cow” milk cartons to the Great Plains Food Bank, bringing their total donations this year to 46,000. With hunger affecting 77,000 North Dakotans, including over 25,000 children, these shelf-stable cartons are a vital resource—arriving just in time for the food bank’s back-to-school backpack program. The initiative highlights the power of community partnerships in fighting food insecurity.
