Chamber Launches Civic Engagement Center to Boost Local Involvement 🏛️
The Fargo Moorhead West Fargo Chamber of Commerce has launched the Civic Engagement Center, an online hub designed to inspire community participation and leadership. The site helps residents and businesses learn about local representatives, find volunteer opportunities, and allows companies to give employees time to engage in civic projects. Chamber President Shannon Full said the goal is to empower people to view civic involvement as both an opportunity and a shared responsibility to strengthen the community. NDSU and DSU Partner to Create New Pharmacy Pathways 💊 🎒
North Dakota State University and Dickinson State University have signed a new agreement to expand access to pharmacy education across the state, creating two pathways into NDSU’s Doctor of Pharmacy program, a three-year pre-pharmacy track and a two-year Early Admission Pathway, allowing DSU students to begin their studies in western North Dakota. Courses will be offered in HyFlex and online formats for flexibility, and university leaders say the partnership will help address pharmacist shortages in rural areas while keeping talented students in-state. NDSU College of Engineering Honors Outstanding Educators 🏗️
The NDSU College of Engineering has recognized three members of its community for excellence in teaching. Associate Professor Yechun Wang received the 2025 Excellence in Teaching Award for her long-standing contributions to the mechanical engineering curriculum and dedication to student learning. Jessica Vold, assistant professor of engineering and entrepreneurship, earned the 2025 Early Career Excellence in Teaching Award for her innovative approach to engineering education and real-world focus. Xiaoou Hu, a doctoral student in civil, construction, and environmental engineering, was named Graduate Teaching Assistant of the Year for creating engaging, application-based learning experiences. Local Schools Earn National Speech & Debate Honors 🎤
Moorhead High School and Sheyenne High School have been recognized with the 2024-2025 Leading Chapter Awards from the National Speech & Debate Association, honoring schools for exceptional student participation in speech and debate. Moorhead is one of three Minnesota winners, while Sheyenne is the only school in North Dakota to earn the honor. Selected from more than 4,000 member schools, these programs rank among the top 3% nationwide for their commitment to empowering students to use their voices and lead through communication.
