Scoops of the Day

Landon’s Light Foundation Marks Five Years of Hope 🎉

Landon’s Light Foundation is celebrating its five-year anniversary on Friday, October 4, at Brewhalla in Fargo. Established in 2019, the foundation honors the legacy of Landon Solberg, a young boy who passed away from brain cancer, by supporting children battling serious medical conditions. The event will feature a program, entertainment by Brother Jukebox, and a speech by cancer survivor Avery Moxness. Tickets are $75 per person or $600 for a reserved table. ($) Moorhead’s Corn Man Returns with Fresh Harvest 🌽

Dale Ullrich, known locally as Moorhead’s "Corn Man," is back on the streets offering freshly picked sweet corn. After nearly 20 years of selling his corn from a trailer, Ullrich, now 80, continues to delight locals with his produce. Despite challenges this year, including frost and flooding, Ullrich and his daughter, Brenda Offutt, managed to harvest a bumper crop. The corn is sold at $7 for a baker's dozen ears, and Ullrich's loyal customers appreciate the quality. Although Ullrich's speech has been affected by a stroke, his enthusiasm remains undiminished. For those craving fresh corn, Ullrich aims to be out every Friday, weather permitting. For more details, read the full article here.

Free Radon Testing Kits Now Available at Fargo Public Libraries 📚

Fargo Public Libraries are now offering free radon detector kits to the public, starting Tuesday. This initiative, a collaboration with the University of North Dakota, aims to help residents identify unsafe levels of radon—a colorless, odorless gas linked to lung cancer. The libraries have 30 digital radon detectors available for checkout, which can be borrowed for three weeks with a library card. Each kit includes instructions for use and advice on mitigating radon exposure. This program, funded by a $5,000 grant from the National Center for Healthy Housing, is part of UND Connect's efforts to enhance community well-being. For more details, read the full article here.
