Scoops of the Day

Get Spooked and Up Close at Boo at the Zoo 🎃

If you’re ready to meet some of the creepiest critters around, Boo at the Zoo at Red River Zoo is the place to be this month. This event is one of the largest trick-or-treating experiences in the Fargo-Moorhead area, featuring everything from hissing cockroaches to an albino tiger salamander named Sausage—a native North Dakota species.

New this year is “Blue Boo at the Zoo,” a sensory-friendly area designed to make the spooky fun accessible without overwhelming anyone’s senses. Beyond the thrills, visitors can learn why salamanders serve as important environmental indicators and discover the surprisingly quirky personalities of hissing cockroaches. It’s a unique mix of education and Halloween fun all in one. For more details, read the full article here.

Taste of Norway Brings a Flavorful Heritage Celebration

Fargo’s Sons of Norway is serving up authentic Norwegian flavors and traditions during Heritage Week, featuring dishes like lingonberry meatballs, klub, and classic desserts such as kransekake and krumkake. Many of these recipes are typically reserved for the holidays, making this event a rare chance for locals and visitors alike to experience them year-round.

Attendees like Les Bakke and Bev Like, who traveled all the way from Arizona, cherish the event as a way to reconnect with heritage and loved ones. Rømmegrøt, a warm and simple Norwegian dish, stands out as a crowd favorite, offering comfort through its rich tradition. The week also features crafts, music, and culminates in an anniversary dinner, highlighting the community’s dedication to preserving Norwegian culture. For more details, read the full article here.

Third Graders Step Back in Time on Fargo History Tour 🏛️

More than 300 Fargo Public Schools third graders laced up their shoes this week for a hands-on history lesson through downtown Fargo. The annual walking tour gave students a closer look at some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Great Northern Bicycle Company, the Black Building, Hotel Donaldson, and the Fargo Theatre.

At the theatre, students enjoyed a silent comedy film and learned how the historic venue helped shape Fargo’s cultural growth. Emily Beck, Executive Director of the Fargo Theatre, shared that connecting with students each year is a highlight, watching them laugh and learn from a century-old art form. The walking tour has been part of the district’s social studies curriculum for over ten years and will return again in May. For more details, read the full article here.

Fargo’s K9 Hero Uno Earns Prestigious Working Award 🐾
