Freeze-A-Thon Raises Funds for Down Home Charity ❄️
NDSU’s Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and Kappa Delta sorority are braving the cold for a good cause—Freeze-A-Thon, now in its 26th year. The event, running from February 10-14, raises money for local charities, with this year’s beneficiary being Down Home, a nonprofit that helps individuals transition out of homelessness.
Since 1999, students have volunteered to stand outside for one-hour shifts, raising nearly $40,000 last year. The goal this year is to top $45,000, with proceeds directly supporting Down Home’s mission of providing housing and resources to those in need. The efforts of these students continue to make a significant impact on the Fargo-Moorhead community. For more details, read the full article here.
A Teacher and Coach Who Inspires 🍎
Bart Manson, the 2025 Fargo Public Schools Teacher of the Year, has earned the admiration of his students for making history come to life. As a teacher and head boys basketball coach at Davies High School, Manson’s passion for education and dedication to his students shine through.
For 28 years, Manson has shaped young minds, with 14 years spent at Davies. Known for his engaging storytelling and deep knowledge of history and military, his students say he makes learning exciting and never boring. Beyond the classroom, Manson's heart for coaching has inspired his basketball players to grow, both on and off the court. His pride comes not from victories, but from watching his students graduate and become leaders. For more details, read the full article here.
Bison Racing Dreams at Daytona 🏁
Fargo’s own Bryce Haugeberg is gearing up for a dream debut at Daytona International Speedway on February 15, 2025, in the ARCA Menards Series. A mechanical engineering student at NDSU, Haugeberg has spent years honing his skills in dirt winged sprint cars and is now set to compete on one of motorsports’ biggest stages. His car, fully decked out in Bison green and yellow, will represent NDSU’s pride as he races at Daytona.
Haugeberg’s journey has been one of passion, hard work, and Bison pride—pushing his racing dreams forward while juggling his studies at NDSU. His race is a big step toward a future in the motorsports world, whether as a driver or an engineer. For more details, read the full article here.

NDSU Students Improve Alzheimer’s Care with AI 🧠
A team of NDSU doctoral students is working to ease the burden on Alzheimer’s caregivers with ADQueryAid, a website designed to provide quick, reliable answers from official Alzheimer’s resources. The project, which began in 2020, was inspired by social media discussions highlighting how caregivers struggle just as much as patients.
Unlike a generic search engine, ADQueryAid offers empathetic, human-like responses to questions, making it feel more like a virtual companion than a clinical tool. However, keeping up with AI advancements poses challenges, as outdated systems quickly become obsolete. Despite this, the team plans to release an updated version this spring, with a stronger focus on patient care. For more details, read the full article here.
