Exploring Careers in 3D 🍦
Students across North Dakota are getting a new kind of hands-on experience—without ever leaving the classroom. Through CareerViewXR, schools are introducing virtual reality career tours that let students “step into” different professions and see what a day on the job is really like.
North Dakota is leading the way as the first state in the nation to roll out this kind of immersive career exploration technology. With more than 100 virtual experiences covering fields like healthcare, energy, and skilled trades, students can explore their futures in a fun, interactive way. As CEO Matt Chaussee explains, the goal is to help students discover in-demand careers by literally seeing them through someone else’s eyes.

Get ready to kick off the holiday season in the heart of downtown! Broadway Square will host its annual community tree lighting on November 25, featuring a dazzling 32-foot-tall tree that’s sure to bring plenty of festive cheer.
If the weather cooperates, the celebration will also mark the opening of the Scheels skating rink and skate shack for the season. Regular rink hours begin November 27, offering weekday evening skating and full-day fun on weekends. The tree lighting runs from 6–8 p.m. and is free for everyone, making it the perfect way to start the holidays Fargo-style.

A Sky Full of Magic 🌌
The Northern Lights made a rare and breathtaking appearance across the country this week, lighting up the Fargo-Moorhead skies with brilliant shades of green and pink. It’s been years since such a vivid display has been seen this far south, drawing crowds of sky-watchers eager to catch a glimpse of nature’s light show.
According to local astronomy experts, the display came from two coronal mass ejections—bursts of solar particles from the sun that interact with Earth’s magnetic field and atmosphere, creating those glowing, fluorescent colors. Professors Juan Cabanela of MSUM and Tim Young of UND say that while auroras happen regularly, the intensity and vibrancy of this week’s lights are extremely rare.
The show is expected to fade by Friday, so those hoping to see it should head away from city lights and look north. With any luck, the skies will stay clear for one more round of this unforgettable cosmic performance.

“A Sundae of Giving”
Harvesting Hope for North Dakota 🧺
The North Dakota Farmers Union (NDFU) is making a big impact in the fight against hunger with a $500,000 donation to the Great Plains Food Bank (GPFB). The funds will support GPFB’s Harvesting Hope Campaign, which focuses on building a new statewide distribution center to expand food access across North Dakota.
NDFU President Mark Watne says the contribution reflects the strength and generosity of North Dakota’s farming community—those same farmers and ranchers who keep food on our tables every day. This donation follows another act of generosity in September, when NDFU supplied 35,000 pounds of pork to GPFB. Together, these efforts reinforce a shared mission: ensuring that no one in North Dakota goes hungry.
