Houston’s Owls Get a Major Upgrade 🦉
The International Owl Center in Houston, Minnesota is preparing to spread its wings with a massive expansion. The beloved attraction, which welcomes thousands of owl enthusiasts each year, is working toward a new 22,000-square-foot facility near Trailhead Park — nine times larger than its current home. The new space will offer more room for owls (growing from 5 to 28), feature an innovative owl aviary design never before seen in the U.S., and provide much-needed upgrades like additional bathrooms, program space, and even a parking lot.
To make the project a reality, the center is aiming to raise $17.3 million through private donations. So far, they’ve gathered $1.6 million. To help close the gap, they’re hosting a “Raise the Roost” fundraising party on August 2 with a live auction, wine pull, and even an owl runway fashion show. An online auction is also open through August 3 for those who want to support from afar. Read the full article here.
Loco Daze Rolls Into Dilworth 🚂
Dilworth’s annual Loco Daze Celebration is in full swing, running through Sunday, July 27, with parades, races, and plenty of fun. Friday kicks off with a Youth Parade at 6:30 p.m., while Saturday features the main Loco Daze Parade at 10:30 a.m., stretching along part of Highway 10. Early risers can join the Caboose on the Loose 5K and Kids Fun Run before the festivities roll on.
A free shuttle is available Friday until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 7:00 p.m. for easy transportation. Bleachers and parade commentary will be available by Bell Bank. Read the full article here.
New Parking Ramp Now Open at Hector International ✈️
Travelers flying out of Fargo can now take advantage of a brand-new parking ramp at Hector International Airport. Scheduled to open Friday, the ramp adds approximately 1,000 new spots across four levels, offering much-needed relief during busy travel periods.
The ramp is part of a larger $200 million terminal expansion project that began in June 2024. While the $47 million ramp is now complete, additional features—including a skywalk—are still in progress, with the full expansion expected to wrap up by 2027. Read the full article here.

Sunshine Kids Golf Tournament Tees Off for 18th Year ⛳
The Sunshine Kids Golf Tournament returns next week for its 18th year, bringing together 38 teams and over 60 local sponsors to support children battling cancer. Hosted in the Fargo-Moorhead area, this sold-out event benefits the Sunshine Kids Foundation — a national nonprofit that provides social activities, trips, and support for kids undergoing cancer treatment. Importantly, all funds raised from the tournament stay local, helping families right here in the region.
Berkshire Hathaway’s Maureen Bartelt, one of the event’s organizers, says the annual tournament is more than a fundraiser — it’s a way to give these children a sense of connection and joy during a difficult time. Though the golf spots are filled, community members can still get involved through donations or by spreading awareness to help brighten the lives of local kids facing cancer.
