Scoops of the Day

🌾 Scarecrows on Display at Northern Plains Botanic Garden

The Northern Plains Botanic Garden turned into a fall wonderland this past Saturday with its fifth annual Scarecrows in the Garden event. Guests explored a scavenger hunt, browsed a fall market, and enjoyed a meal from Heart-N-Soul Community Cafe—all while surrounded by creative scarecrow displays. Admission was free, but donations and sales help fund key projects for the garden, including this year’s push for added security and infrastructure improvements. Organizers say the event usually raises a couple thousand dollars, making it an important tradition to keep the garden growing strong.

🏓 Official Grand Opening for Courts & Pints

Courts & Pints officially celebrated its grand opening in Moorhead this weekend, marking the first time its courts, restaurant, play area, and pro shop were all up and running together. Guests enjoyed free play on the 15 pickleball courts, $5 beginner lessons, and even extra fun with eight bean bag lanes available at no cost. The massive 60,000-square-foot facility was once a Family Fare supermarket, but owners Kelly Lancaster and Jon Norberg say transforming the building into a vibrant pickleball hub has been both rewarding and inspiring. With food, games, and plenty of court space, it’s shaping up to be a community favorite.

🛡️ Seniors Learn Safety Skills in Moorhead

Valley Triad, a partnership of local organizations and law enforcement agencies, hosted its Senior Safety Academy in Moorhead to help older adults stay safe and informed. The event featured booths, speakers, and practical tips covering everything from community resources to fraud prevention. Cass County Detective Joe Gress highlighted the growing threat of scams targeting seniors, especially those impersonating law enforcement or using online tricks. His key advice: if you’re contacted by suspected scammers, reach out to local authorities right away.

A Sundae of Giving

🥇 Confidence, Friendship, and Fun Shine at Special Olympics

The Special Olympics lit up Fargo with a day full of energy, competition, and community spirit. Athletes from across the region gathered not just to chase medals but to celebrate inclusion, friendships, and the joy of sport. From local competitors like Lance of Cass County—determined to bring home gold—to athletes preparing for nationals, the games showcased incredible talent and determination.

Organizers emphasized that while athletics take center stage, the heart of the event lies in building connections. Athletes bonded over meals, laughs, and shared experiences, proving that the games are just as much about friendship as competition. Special Olympics North Dakota President Nancy Hanson also highlighted the ongoing challenge of funding, noting the state provides no financial support, meaning every dollar must be raised by the organization.

As the day wrapped up, smiles and confidence were the true victories. Athletes left feeling proud, empowered, and excited for what’s ahead.
