Racing into Summer at North Dakota Horse Park 🏇

The North Dakota Horse Park in Fargo will host four weekends of exciting horse racing this summer. The season opens on Saturday, July 12th, with the gates opening at 11 a.m. and the first race at 5 p.m. Races will continue through the next three weekends, with dates set for July 18th-19th, July 25th-26th, and August 2nd-3rd. In addition to the races, there will be special events like $1 Day, Family Day, and North Dakota Derby Day. Mushers Gear Up for 40th Beargrease Marathon 🐾

Musher Elizabeth Coons, competing in the 40th annual John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon, is excited to race in her home state of Minnesota. Coons, who’s confident her dogs will handle the warmer-than-usual conditions, looks forward to the challenge ahead. She’s particularly excited to race in Minnesota after experiencing various trail terrains.

The marathon, originally scheduled for January 26th, was postponed due to a lack of snow and hazardous conditions. Now, the race will start in Two Harbors on Sunday, March 2nd, after warm weather impacted the snowpack at the original Duluth location. The new start line will be located north of Two Harbors, accessible by Highway 2 to the North Shore State Trail on Township Road 24. Northern Narratives Junior Writing & Art Contest ✍️

The Fargo Public Library is accepting entries for Northern Narratives Junior, a kids-only literary publication for grades K-6. Submissions in short stories, poetry, comics, nonfiction essays, drawing, and photography are due March 1 – April 30, 2025. Prizes will be awarded to first and second place in each category, and all eligible entries will be published online. Submissions can be made by mail, email, or in person at any library location with a required entry form. Winners will be announced in late May. A Champion’s Treat

A Magical Surprise for a Local Champion 🏒

West Fargo’s Jacob Haug got a huge surprise at Sanford Children’s Hospital when he was honored as the North Dakota Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Champion. Along with his family, he received an unforgettable gift, a trip to Disney World.

Jacob also met Fargo Force players, who wore jerseys he designed in purple to raise awareness for seizures. Born with health challenges, he has faced seizures and physical therapy with an inspiring optimism. Thinking he was just meeting the players, Jacob had no idea about the Disney trip, making the moment even more special.
