Scoops of the Day
A Signature Moment for Moorhead ✍️
Moorhead residents had a unique opportunity to leave their mark on the city’s future by signing a steel beam for the new Community Center and Public Library. The beam signing ceremony on March 17 celebrated the completion of the building’s structural phase, allowing community members to add their signatures to a 45-foot steel beam that will become a permanent part of the structure.
Next, the final beam will be placed during a “topping off” ceremony on Thursday, March 20, at 10 a.m. in the FM Center Lot. Those interested in watching can park in the old Herberger’s parking ramp. For more details, read the full article here.
Rock, Rolls, and Raising Awareness 🎸
The 4th annual Battle of the Buns brought together two exciting competitions, baking and live music, all for a meaningful cause. Organized by Love Your Buns, a nonprofit founded by the late Sara DCamp after her rectal cancer diagnosis, the event continues her legacy of advocacy and awareness.
What started as a battle of the bands has now evolved into a full-fledged festival of food and music. This year, attendees enjoyed both sweet and savory treats while cheering on local musicians. Judges, including Sanford’s Brian Shawn, a four-year colon cancer survivor, emphasized the importance of early detection and awareness. For more details, read the full article here.
Fargo Fire Department Seeks New Recruits 🚒
The Fargo Fire Department is gearing up to accept new applications for firefighters, and this year, they’re looking for a mix of experienced and first-time applicants. No prior firefighting experience is required, but applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED.
In a positive shift from previous years, the department has seen an increase in applicants after introducing the high school diploma/GED requirement. Dawn Stollenwerk, Assistant Fire Marshal, also encourages new hires to pursue a college degree, as a two-year associate’s degree is required for promotions within the department.
