Scoops of the Day

A Sweet Deal for Local Scholars 🎓

Minnesota State University Moorhead has just unveiled the Moorhead Scholars program, a groundbreaking initiative offering free tuition to high-performing Moorhead High School graduates. Starting with the Class of 2025, students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher can attend MSUM tuition-free for four years. This opportunity is made possible through a mix of federal, state, and institutional grants.

MSUM President Dr. Tim Downs, alongside local leaders, emphasized how this program invests in the community’s future by keeping top talent local. Moorhead Scholars will only need to meet a few key requirements, including completing FAFSA and enrolling full-time at MSUM. For more details, read the full article here.

Fargo Officer Honored for Heroic Actions 🏅

Fargo Police Sgt. Zachary Robinson has received the prestigious IACP/Axon Police Officer of the Year Award for his brave response to the tragic shooting on July 14, 2023. On that day, a heavily armed gunman fatally shot Officer Jake Wallin and wounded two others. Robinson confronted the gunman and neutralized the threat, preventing further harm to the community.

Robinson, who was promoted to Sergeant in August 2024, expressed deep gratitude for the award, crediting his training at the Fargo Police Department. Fargo Police Chief Dave Zibolski hailed Robinson's bravery as one of the most outstanding acts of heroism in Fargo’s history. For more details, read the full article here.

Dakota Marker Reclaimed 🏆

In a thrilling showdown, the #2 North Dakota State Bison snapped a five-game losing streak against the #1 South Dakota State Jackrabbits, winning the Dakota Marker with a dramatic 13-9 victory. First-year Head Coach Tim Polasek celebrated the win as one of the best locker room experiences he's witnessed, emphasizing the hard work and dedication of his players.

Key performances included quarterback Cam Miller, who, despite an ankle injury, led a crucial final drive and finished 20-27 with 163 yards and two touchdowns. RaJa Nelson, who battled health issues throughout the season, caught both touchdown passes, crediting the athletic training staff for their support. The Bison defense also shined, limiting SDSU to just nine points, with Logan Kopp sealing the victory with a game-ending interception.

The win not only brought the Dakota Marker back to Fargo but also marked a significant moment for the Bison, who are eager to maintain this momentum as they head into their next game against Murray State on October 26. For more details, read the full article here.
