NDSU Doctoral Student Wins National Nutrition Award 🏆
Najmol Hoque, a Ph.D. student in NDSU’s plant sciences department, has won the Emerging Leaders in Nutrition Science Poster Competition at the American Society for Nutrition’s annual meeting. His winning research focused on how nitrogen management affects the nutritional and antioxidant properties of hard red spring wheat.

Minnesota’s New Boating Permit Rules Start in 2025 🚤
A new Minnesota boating safety law will take effect on July 1, 2025, requiring anyone born after June 30, 2004, to have a watercraft operator’s permit to drive motorboats or personal watercraft. The permit, similar to a lifetime boating license, is part of a gradual rollout extending through 2028, when the age exemption will apply only to those 41 and older. Until then, those without a permit can still operate a boat if accompanied by someone over 21. The Minnesota DNR plans to focus on education during the transition, aiming to create a safer boating environment statewide. For more details, read the full article here.

A Volunteer’s Delight
Bean There, Packed That 📦
The Great Plains Food Bank’s annual Packathon brought out big hearts and busy hands this week in Fargo. Volunteers from 16 local businesses joined forces to pack beans and noodles into one-pound bags, helping to stock food shelves across the region. With a bit of friendly competition in the mix, Bremer Bank led the pack with over 1,000 pounds bagged.
The noodles were sourced from Casselton and the beans came courtesy of a generous North Dakota farmer. As Corporate Engagement Manager Rebecca Knutson shared, the event highlights the power of community: “We have to end hunger together.”
Though Fargo’s leg of the Packathon is complete, the effort continues next week in Bismarck. For more details, read the full article here.
