🩸 Battle of the Badges: Police vs. Fire (and City vs. City!)
The American Red Cross is hosting its annual “Battle of the Badges” blood drive, where community members can donate blood and cast their support for local police or fire departments. This year adds a new twist—the “Battle of the Cities” trophy—pitting Fargo and Moorhead against each other to see which side of the river can bring in the most donations.
Fargo Police have held the crown in past years, but both departments say the friendly rivalry is all about coming together for a good cause. The drive wraps up Thursday at the American Red Cross in Fargo, running from noon to 6 p.m.

🌟 Fargo Teen Launches Foundation to Support Special Education
Davies High School senior David Ha is making a big impact with his newly founded non-profit, The Equal Start Foundation. Inspired after volunteering at Gigi’s Playhouse with his mom, David began researching special education and discovered a major funding gap—while the federal government promised to cover 40% of costs, it has never reached more than 20%.
Determined to help, he launched fundraisers, including a GoFundMe that has already raised over $800, with hopes of growing his outreach and partnering with other organizations. His mission is simple but powerful: ensure every child has access to the same opportunities in education, no matter the challenges they face.

🚌 Track Your Child’s Bus with Ease
Fargo Public Schools is reminding parents about the “Here Comes the Bus” app, a handy tool designed to ease worries about student pick-up and drop-off. The app lets families see buses in real time, sends notifications when kids get on or off, and even alerts parents when the bus is nearby.
Students just need to scan their bus card, and parents can track their ride from their phone. The app is available for both Android and Apple devices, and families need their school district code to get started. If a student isn’t showing up in the system, contacting the school office usually fixes it within 24 hours.

The Heroic Scoop

Owl Rescue at Sheyenne High School
West Fargo Police helped rescue an owl that got tangled in a soccer net at Sheyenne High School on August 18. A community resource officer responded and coordinated with ND Fish & Game and the Red River Zoo, whose staff safely freed the bird.
The owl was checked for injuries at the zoo and later released back into the wild. Police noted that while they were glad to assist, future wildlife calls are best handled by experts rather than law enforcement.
