Scoops of the Day

Fargo’s New Shared-Use Paths in the Works 🚴

The City of Fargo is aiming to expand its network of shared-use paths, with plans now underway for multiple new trails. The City Commission recently directed engineering staff to prepare grant applications for several projects eligible under the Transportation Alternatives program, which has nearly $1.75 million in funding available across 2028 and 2029. These paths will support a mix of pedestrians, cyclists, and other non-motorized users, with proposed routes including Drain 27 and Drain 53 in South Fargo.

The city has already secured funding for a shared-use path by the Water Reclamation Facility near Broadway, and these new applications signal a commitment to making Fargo more walkable and bike-friendly. For more details, read the full article here.

MSUM’s School Psychology Program Receives $750,000 Grant 🎓

Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) recently secured a $750,000 grant for its school psychology program, part of Minnesota’s $4 million Student Support Personnel Workforce Pipeline initiative. The grant aims to expand the workforce in school psychology, social work, counseling, and nursing, with MSUM’s portion helping to address the nationwide shortage of school psychologists. With this support, MSUM provides financial aid like summer stipends, travel funds, and scholarships for diverse students, allowing them to focus on their studies without financial strain.

Faculty member Dr. Mary Dosch emphasized the program’s immediate impact, with funds already awarded to first- and second-year students, supporting costs like travel for on-campus residencies and professional memberships. The grant has opened doors for students like Sadie Staloch and Cheryl Poitra, who are now able to fully engage in their programs and gain vital skills to address students’ mental health needs. MSUM’s initiative is part of a broader effort by the Minnesota Department of Education to build a diverse workforce and improve mental health resources in schools. Honoring Service at Home and Abroad 🇺🇸

North Dakota’s leaders and citizens gathered on Veterans Day to honor the dedication of military members past and present. Brig. Gen. Mitchell Johnson commended the National Guard for their unpredictable yet essential service, from international deployments to fighting wildfires at home. Gov. Doug Burgum called Veterans Day a moment of gratitude, highlighting the sacrifices made by those who "always stand ready."

Rep. Kelly Armstrong shared a touching memory of North Dakota students honoring veterans in Washington, D.C., reflecting the state’s strong tradition of respect for service members. The ceremony concluded with a visit to the state’s All Veterans Memorial, designed to capture sunlight at 11 a.m. on November 11 each year, symbolizing North Dakota's enduring tribute to its veterans.
