A familiar Fargo building is starting a new chapter. The former Fargo Brewing Company location has been transformed into "The Shop," a shared space that now houses Brunos Coffee, Sign Badgers, and a co working area designed for remote workers and entrepreneurs.

Building owner Dawson Schefter says the goal is to create a space where the businesses can support one another while bringing new energy to the historic property. Originally built in 1941, the building has a long history of manufacturing everything from tractors and farm equipment to snowmobile parts. Fargo’s next mayor will be making history in more ways than one. Beginning this year, the position will officially become a full time job, with compensation based on a 40 hour workweek. City Administrator Michael Redlinger says discussions about the change have been ongoing for several years, and city leaders were finally able to make room in the budget to support the transition.

While outgoing Mayor Tim Mahoney has already been dedicating full time hours to the role, the change formalizes those expectations for future mayors. Fargo’s Garden of Healing has raised enough funding to begin phase two of its $1.7 million expansion project. The 30,000-square-foot addition will add new walking paths, water features, a medicine wheel, a labyrinth, and bricks from the Fargo fire of 1893.

Fargo Public Library is kicking off summer with a prehistoric twist as this year’s summer reading challenge gets underway.
